I just had spring break and most of it was spent in beautiful San Francisco. San Fran is a favorite of my family and we don't live too far so we get up there once or twice a year for a couple days of fun. My family aren't the types that lay around on a beach or relax on vacation, we go go go. At the end of the trip we are tired and ready to go back to normal life.
This trip we brought our bikes and took the ferry out to Angel Island. The island is home to several things, The immigration station - active from 1910 - 1940. Hundreds of thousands of immigrants were detained there. We toured the barracks where the Chinese men were held and you could see the poems they etched on the walls. Next we rode through the buildings in Fort McDonnell and ate lunch with a view of San Francisco. The day was sunny and warm but not hot and was perfect for bike riding. After getting back to the mainland we strolled through the Maritime museum on the waterfront. The end of the day beer was well earned.
The next day we made our way to Golden Gate Park and the De Young museum/ Legion of Honor to check out some art. I have been wildly studying art history this last year and it was so awesome getting to see some works I had just studied the quarter before. It was SUCH a good day and it was wonderful spending it with my parents and showing them the pieces I was familiar with and them experiencing the art world.
After walking miles of museum floors we rode our bikes down to fisherman's wharf and basked in the late afternoon sun. Our last meal was at the bustling Buena Vista Cafe and we watched the sun disappear while we drank and ate wonderful food.
I am so lucky that my parents are such adventurers, they are up for most anything and love doing new things. I love spending time with them as I don't see them often enough anymore. I hope we go back soon.
Thanks for looking and reading through,
See you next time!
Robin
